a commission for :iconprinceofrats: of his character Mistryl.
this took me about 2 weeks to complete on and off, I can say that the ice wings were definitely the most time consuming, but I think the face was the most challenging. Mistryl is supposed to be between 21 and 25 years old so I really wanted to get that across.
overall very much enjoyed this one and got to use some new brushes on the background as well :)
cheers!

Very nice!

The set of his jaw reminds me of Rob Lowe, if you know who he is.

It's nice you have people to crit your work. Critics and sharing are huge help in improvement, I realize that now (after going to school in design) more then ever before!

very True girl. the other thing i learned about critiques in school was not to take them personally. the truth is that art and design can be a very personal matter, after all, it's an extension of the creator. but it is also very true that preferences are very personal and what you like others may not. so it is always good to remember not to take critiques personally and to heart, just pull out the facts and learn from them. it is also important to be able to distinguish critique from personal opinion which is what most people post here on da ;) don't get me wrong, i love it when someone tells me they like the work i did, it makes me feel like it was worth it because it struck a chord with someone and that is still very important. but there's a big difference in comments like for example: "hey, her boobs are too fake looking" and "hey, her boobs are a bit off from where they should anatomically be on her body". silly example i know, but i get silly crap like this all the time ;) and that's all it is, silly :)

Yes i understand! I'm not good at giving critics for now. I never know how to say it nicely and I often doubt myself that what i see is worthy of commenting... urg, do you think i can get better at giving critics if i work on that too? I hope so, because i find them quite useful. :)
I find personal opinions can be nice too!...when they are accompain by a justification. Like "I like that because..." I love receiving those too b/c it helps me understand how people see my work, what they see in it, what is popular or not, what attracts people or not. Then it's my choice following a path or another, but at least i know, I've learn new little things.

exactly on the personal opinions thing! while they may not always be constructive, it does give a nice window into how others see my work on a personal note. you can't make everyone happy, but when someone is, then it's nice to know why :)

and surely everything gets better with practice. i'm sure you'll also get a lot of good pointers at school as well :)
